RE: appointment of a new Principal for Leigh Academy Snowfields.
As you know, Mrs Pickerill retires as the founding Principal of Leigh Academy Snowfields this summer. Since Snowfields opened in 2020, she has provided exceptional leadership as the academy has grown to become
one of the most successful and popular in the County. We will be extremely sorry to see her leave, but wish her and her family a very happy retirement.
I am delighted to say that the Trust has successfully appointed Mrs Pickerill’s replacement who will begin in September at the start of the new academic year. The new Principal at Leigh Academy Snowfields will be
Mrs Laura Smith who is already a Principal in Leigh Academies Trust. She has led her current academy to “Outstanding” judgements across the board and is determined to maintain the very high standards Mrs
Pickerill has set. Mrs Smith has been a senior leader in both secondary and primary schools and has a passion for special educational needs.
I know Mrs Smith is keen to write to you herself shortly. The Trust will be working with her, Mrs Pickerill and the staff at Snowfields to ensure an exceptionally smooth transition so that the academy can continue from
strength to strength.
