Leigh Academy Snowfields is a secondary school for young people with Autism Spectrum Disorder. It offers personalised approaches to delivering an inspiring curriculum offering a blend of vocational and academic study and qualifications, set in a context of exceptional nurture and wellbeing. Class sizes are small and our students are led by highly trained staff who support, value and challenge. The building has been designed to deliver an outstanding setting which both inspires and supports young people’s complex needs.
Careful consideration has been given to all aspects of the design to promote wellbeing and achievement. Our curriculum reflects the range of pupil needs, offering a blend of academic and vocational pathways. Specialisms in horticulture and catering have led to the development of a purpose-built vocational teaching kitchen with servery and outdoor horticulture areas, which enable young people to gain real-life experiences and qualifications leading to the very best employment opportunities. We are forging partnerships with local businesses to offer work experience to facilitate this, and give every student the skills needed to confidently transition from school onto their next steps. Leigh Academy Snowfields offers exceptional support for young people’s wellbeing, with a team of highly trained specialists who work collaboratively with families and young people to meet a wide range of complex needs.
Admissions to the School
Leigh Academy Snowfields is a special school which provides 372 places for children of both sexes in the age range 11-18 with a diagnosis and primary need of Autism Spectrum Disorder.
For a child to be admitted, the school must be named, by a local authority, in the young person’s Education Health and Care Plan (‘EHCP’) following a consultation process with us. This will usually, but not always, be as part of the phase transfer process at Year 6 and again at Year 11.
