At Leigh Academy Snowfields, safeguarding and the promotion of British values are at the heart of everything we do. Our curriculum is carefully designed to meet the needs of our students, ensuring safeguarding content is taught at an appropriate level and in a sensitive, supportive way.
Through a broad and balanced curriculum, we equip students with the knowledge, skills and understanding they need to stay safe, both now and in the future. From PSHE, ICT, Life Skills and Communication Lessons, to Wellbeing Time, Assemblies and our co-curricular programme, safeguarding is woven into every aspect of learning. We create opportunities for students to explore diversity, values, rights and responsibilities, building moral understanding that supports their personal development, behaviour and welfare, while also preventing radicalisation and extremism.
Our approach is preventative, responsive and personalised. We recognise that some sensitive topics need to be explored at an age-appropriate level, in small groups, or 1:1, to ensure that every student feels supported. Students are encouraged to ask questions, share their ideas and reflect on their own well-being, developing the confidence to make safe and sensible choices throughout their lives.
By constantly challenging students to think deeply about safeguarding, we prepare them not only for the next stage of their education but also to participate fully, positively and safely in the wider world.
